Psychocutaneous Disorders

This presentation discusses psychocutaneous disorders, including pathogenesis, classification, and treatment. This case based discussion includes delusions of infestation, Morgellons disease, and factitious/skin picking disorder. Therapeutic approach, ethics and use of antipsychotics are discussed. Lastly, there will be a brief review of treatments for primary pruritus.

Objectives:
Discuss significance and classifications of psychocutaneous disorders.
Discuss differences between appropriate and inappropriate treatment and workup for patients with psychocutaneous diseases and identify unethical exploitation of these patients.
Discuss importance of working up patients who present with pruritus for underlying causes, including lymphoma, prurigo nodularis, and treatment of primary pruritus.
